What is Mitsubishi Elevance: A Motorhome with Four Motors and a Glamping Trailer

Exploring the novelties of the Japan Mobility Show

At the Japan Mobility Show, Mitsubishi unveiled the futuristic Elevance concept — a three-row SUV that combines the features of a luxury touring car, an electrified SUV, and a mobile hotel. The model demonstrates the direction in which the brand sees the future of its SUVs, combining comfort, environmental friendliness, and a spirit of adventure.

The Elevance concept features a modern design in the spirit of the Dynamic Shield philosophy. The front end stands out with narrow LED headlights, the absence of a traditional radiator grille, and smooth body lines. The rear lights are combined into a thin strip, visually widening the car, and the powerful wheel arches emphasize the off-road character. In profile, the model looks monolithic and swift thanks to the extensive glazing and short overhangs, which visually make the body lighter.

The interior is designed as a living room on wheels. The three-row layout is designed for six people, and the completely flat floor and rotating front seats allow you to turn the interior into a cozy relaxation space. The dashboard is made of the same materials as the seats, and above it is a single screen that stretches across the entire width of the front pillar. The center console has a rotary driving mode selector and touch control panels. An additional display is installed on the steering wheel, displaying auxiliary information.

Mitsubishi calls the concept the embodiment of the idea of a "luxury adventure." The driver can choose one of seven driving modes — Eco, Auto, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, Mud, and Power. The intelligent assistant system offers the best option depending on the terrain and road conditions.

The basis of the power plant is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with four electric motors and a proprietary Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system. The internal combustion engine runs on carbon-neutral fuel, and a high-capacity battery provides enough energy not only for movement, but also for autonomous power supply of household systems during rest. Mitsubishi promises "exciting dynamics" and smooth driving both in the city and beyond.

But the main feature of Elevance is the capsule trailer included in the kit. It is made in the same style as the SUV itself, and is equipped with large wheels with increased ground clearance for off-road use. Inside the trailer there is a double bed, a compact kitchen, a shower, spacious storage compartments and soft interior lighting with a neon tint. Thus, Elevance is actually a full-fledged hotel on wheels, designed for autonomous travel and comfortable glamping.

Glamping is a form of outdoor recreation that combines the comfort of a hotel room with the opportunity to enjoy nature, but without sacrificing amenities. It is a "glamorous camping" where specially equipped tents, domes, tree houses or yurts with amenities such as beds, furniture, electricity and, often, plumbing are used as housing.

In addition to Elevance, Mitsubishi showed the updated Delica D:5 minivan with a new trim, improved sound insulation and S-AWC all-wheel drive system, as well as the next-generation Delica Mini kei car. Both cars now offer a more technological interior and advanced driver assistance features.

The stand also features production models of the Outlander PHEV and the Triton rally car, which won the Asia Cross Country Rally 2025. The exposition is completed by the brand's historical equipment — the 1985 Pajero, which participated in the Dakar, the legendary Lancer Evo III from the WRC, and the MiEV Evolution III electric car from the Pikes Peak race.
