Toyota GR Supra with V8: A Fan's Dream Come True

But not for ordinary roads

Toyota has officially confirmed the development of a GR Supra version with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8. However, dreams of a civilian model with such an engine will have to be put aside: the car is intended exclusively for participation in the Supercars racing series in Australia. Under the hood will be a proven 2UR-GSE engine, familiar from the Lexus LC 500 and IS 500.

The new track Supra is being created in collaboration with Walkinshaw Andretti United and Brad Jones Racing teams. It will compete with the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro — the last representatives of classic V8s in motorsport. This is not just a show car: a full-fledged combat vehicle with a new body and improved aerodynamics, adapted for tracks like Bathurst.

The civilian Supra, despite numerous rumors, will not receive a V8. The company made it clear that a production version with such an engine is not planned. The model will remain with an inline "six" from BMW, and its production, according to preliminary data, will be completed in mid-2026 against the backdrop of declining demand. Toyota's priority is more mass-produced and profitable cars like the Corolla and Camry.
