Drive? - Pay!: A new tax has been invented for motorists in Russia

Deputy Mironov proposed to tax avid motorists

State Duma deputy Sergei Mironov has proposed replacing the transport tax with a new levy that is calculated based on the intensity of vehicle use.

According to the parliamentarian, paying for the intensity of using a personal car instead of paying for the actual ownership of the car, the cost of which decreases every year, will be more fair.

Then the fair principle will start working - whoever drives, pays.
Sergei Mironov, deputy

Mironov recalled that the transport tax is currently calculated depending on the engine power. As a result, the same amount is paid by those who go to the country a couple of times a year, and those who spend the whole day behind the wheel.

Mironov proposed to compensate for the loss of budget revenues by abolishing tax benefits for the oil and gas industry. The initiative will be considered in the autumn session of the State Duma.
