The Chinese auto giant Geely, according to Kommersant, plans to start producing its cars in Nizhny Novgorod. The assembly line will probably be provided by PLA JSC (Passenger Car Production), which owns the Volga brand and the former Volkswagen plant.
According to sources of "Ъ", initially it was planned to assemble only the Emgrand model, but later it was decided to consider Monjaro as well, due to its good sales in Russia. No deadlines have been set for the implementation of the plan. The same plant may be seen in other contracts. Denis Manturov previously stated that the production of Volga cars is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.
PLA, in turn, stated that they are not conducting any dialogues with Geely and there are no plans to produce their cars in the near future. Geely did not provide any comments on the issue of the plant in the Russian Federation.
