Nissan Sakura gets solar charging

Driving range will increase by 3,000 km per year

Nissan has unveiled an updated version of its most popular electric vehicle in Japan, the Sakura compact hatchback. The main innovation is the installation of the Ao-Solar Extender solar panel, which will allow the battery to be recharged directly from the sun.

The 300W solar module is designed as a removable box on the roof. Inside, there is also a retractable 200W additional panel that can be unfolded in the parking lot, increasing the charging efficiency. According to Nissan's calculations, this will provide up to 3,000 km of additional mileage per year without using a socket.

The panel not only charges the battery, but also acts as a sun visor, reducing the heating of the cabin and saving air conditioning energy. The device can also be used as an external power source in the event of power outages.

The electric car is equipped with a 20 kWh battery and a heat pump system. The range according to the WLTC cycle is about 180 km. Fast charging with a power of 100 kW allows you to replenish 80% of the capacity in about half an hour. The starting price of Nissan Sakura in Japan is about $18,250.
