Russians Given Invaluable Advice on How to Preserve Studs on Winter Tires

Proper break-in is the main condition

The cost of studded winter tires is rising, and replacing them every season is not easy. Tire expert Andrey Molodovsky from the "Kolesa Darom" network shared how to preserve tires longer and not lose traction.

The main rule is proper break-in. In the first 500 km, avoid sharp accelerations, braking, and impact loads, and maintain a speed of up to 60-70 km/h. This secures the studs in the tread and reduces the risk of losing them in the first season.

The next important factor is balancing and correct wheel alignment. Suspension geometry violations accelerate tread wear and worsen traction. Tire pressure should comply with the manufacturer's recommendations: a 20% deviation can increase wear by a third.

If some of the studs are lost, it is worth re-studding in a timely manner - this restores up to 99% of the original characteristics. Storing tires out of season is also critical: a dry and cool room, vertical position without discs or on a suspension. Periodically swapping tires between axles helps to evenly distribute the load.

Following these rules extends the life of winter tires, reduces costs, and increases safety on the roads.
