Tesla's CEO hinted that the next major autopilot update - FSD v14.3 - will be a key milestone in the system's development. The statement came hours after the release of version 14.2, which significantly improved FSD compared to the 14.1.x branch. The second iteration of the v14 series received a more accurate definition of road conditions and reduced the number of cases of "uncertain braking" when the car reacted jerkily to oncoming traffic.
Users also note that the driver monitoring system has become softer: Tesla has long promised to optimize DMS and even plans to allow sending text messages while FSD is running. Against the background of these changes, Musk's words about version 14.3 suggest that the autopilot's dependence on the driver's constant attention will decrease, and the car's behavior will become smoother and more predictable.
The release date of 14.3 has not yet been announced. Version 14.2 only reached early access program participants yesterday, and 14.1 became available to all users only a few weeks ago. Based on the pace of updates, FSD v14.3 may be released closer to the New Year period - either as part of the traditional "holiday" release, or as a separate update at the end of 2025.
