Russia is discussing the creation of a unified digital database of spare parts for Chinese cars. The initiative is being developed in the State Duma, according to Stanislav Naumov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, as reported by Izvestia. The idea is to create a kind of "digital passport" for the car, which will contain an accurate list of compatible parts and components.
The need for such a system is explained by the increasing number of complaints about difficulties in repairing foreign cars, primarily Chinese brands. Car services and car owners are increasingly faced with the fact that even selecting spare parts by VIN code does not guarantee compatibility: due to outdated catalogs, parts are ordered that are not actually suitable for a specific car modification, which leads to additional costs and wasted time.
It is assumed that the digital database will be formed at the stage of model certification. When оформлении ОТТС (Vehicle Type Approval), manufacturers and official suppliers will be required to upload a complete electronic catalog of spare parts to the state system with an accurate link to the VIN of each car and regularly update it with any design changes. Car services and car owners will be able to access the current data – for example, through Госуслуги (Gosuslugi) or the MAX messenger. The State Duma believes that this will reduce repair costs, reduce the risk of buying unsuitable parts, and increase the transparency of service operations, especially against the backdrop of the mass exit of Chinese cars from warranty.
