Xpeng accused of quietly removing millimeter-wave radars from G6 models

Radars disappeared from some G6 models without notifying customers

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has found itself at the center of a scandal after it was revealed that front millimeter-wave radars, advertised as part of the driver assistance system, had disappeared from some 2023 G6 models.

A customer from Beijing, Ms. Deng, discovered the absence of two corner radars while repairing her car. The G6 was positioned as a car with "31 intelligent sensors" and "super-sensitive perception" features, providing a "bird's-eye view."

When Deng contacted Xpeng in February 2025, company representatives stated that the hardware simplification did not affect functionality thanks to the new AI Eagle Eye pure vision solution. Later, Xpeng changed the electronic user manual in the app, reducing the number of radars from five to three.

The incident affected many owners: at least 159 people signed a joint letter expressing concern about the missing radars. Most only discovered the shortage during routine maintenance or repairs.
