Life made harder for car buyers: VIN check disappeared from the traffic police website

On Gosuslugi, a request costs 200 rubles

The vehicle check service by VIN number has disappeared from the official traffic police portal. Previously, users could use it free of charge to learn the history of a vehicle's registration actions, but now the function has completely vanished from public access.

The traffic police abandoned hosting the service on its website and moved vehicle history checks to the Gosuslugi portal. Now, to obtain information about registration activities involving a car, it is necessary to submit a paid request. The cost of the service is 200 rubles.

Until recently, VIN-number checks remained available directly on the traffic police website. Initially, the service operated free of charge, but from September 1 the terms changed — 50 rubles began to be charged per request. Now the function has disappeared completely, and no free alternative is offered anymore.

The service was popular among used-car buyers. With its help, it was possible to quickly find out the number of owners, registration periods, and the basic history of a car without intermediaries. Moving the service to Gosuslugi made the procedure more complicated and more expensive, especially for those who check cars in bulk before purchase.

No official explanations for why the service was removed from the traffic police website have been published so far. At the same time, data on the registration history of vehicles continues to be stored in the Ministry of Internal Affairs system and remains available through the government portal.
