Rotary RX Could Return to Mazda Lineup

Company is exploring scenarios for launching a profitable production car

Mazda is considering the return of the rotary RX sports car, which could become an ideological successor to the RX-7 or RX-8. This was announced by the head of product planning at the company, Moritz Oswald, noting the high enthusiasm of employees around the project.

According to him, discussions about creating an emotional flagship with a rotary engine have intensified again within the corporation. Interest in the project turned out to be higher than expected, and Mazda does not rule out that the future model may receive the name of one of the previously produced RXs.

At the same time, the company emphasizes a pragmatic approach. Mazda is analyzing several scenarios for the development of the project, but the launch is possible only if the model can be financially sustainable. As Oswald emphasized, the brand cannot afford to release a car that will not generate profit.

Mazda also clarifies that we are talking about a full-fledged production model, and not a demonstration concept. The final decision will depend on economic calculations and market prospects for the future sports car.
