Russia has completely switched to crossovers

At the end of the year, the SUV segment occupied 71.1% of the Russian car market

According to the results of last year, crossovers and SUVs accounted for 71.1% of the total sales of new passenger cars in Russia. This was reported by experts from the Avtostat agency with reference to data from JSC "PPK".

Thus, the SUV segment exceeded the 70% mark for the first time, setting a new record. The previous maximum was recorded in 2024, when the share was 67.7%.

It is noteworthy that over the past decade, the indicator has been updating historical values annually. So, in 2017, the share of SUVs exceeded 40%, in 2021 - 50%, and in 2023 - already 60%.

If we turn to an earlier period, the dynamics look even more clear. In 2007, crossovers and SUVs accounted for only 16.7% of the market - this was every sixth car sold. In 2008, the figure rose to 19.5%, and in 2010 it reached 24.3%. In 2012, the segment exceeded the 30% mark for the first time.

The growing popularity of SUVs reflects a steady demand for cars with increased ground clearance, a spacious interior and versatile operating capabilities.
