Chinese company Seres has patented an unusual development for cars - a built-in toilet, which is located directly under the passenger seat. The design includes a compact bowl and a mechanism built into the seat structure.
In the normal state, the device is completely hidden and does not restrict space. The developers propose to use the free zone under the seat cushion - this is especially true for electric vehicles, where the layout of the cabin plays a key role.
Similar solutions have been tried before, but more often it was about portable options. In this case, the sanitary unit is initially integrated into the car.
According to the idea, this function may be useful on long trips or in the absence of access to infrastructure. The patent for the invention was registered in April 2026.
