Factory Comes Back to Life After 11 Years: Russia Assembles First Car of New Brand

The first model is a crossover similar to the Jaecoo J6

The first car of the new Jeland brand was assembled at the site of the former General Motors plant in Shushary, which had been idle since 2015. Production was launched by the AGR holding.

The debut model is the compact crossover Jeland J6. Visually, it almost completely repeats the Jaecoo J6, which is already available on the Russian market.

The release of the test vehicle marks the completion of a key stage in preparing the plant for mass production. The plant has undergone a complete re-equipment: the old equipment was dismantled, new conveyors, robotic systems and automated lines were installed.

Assembly is organized according to a full cycle — from the installation of units and electronics to final tests and quality control. Now the company continues to work out production processes. After that, the plant plans to switch to full-scale production of cars under the Jeland brand.

The site in Shushary previously produced Chevrolet and Opel models, but was stopped in 2015. Now it is being put back into operation with a new brand and partnership with a foreign developer.
