OSAGO compensation for cars will not increase

Payments of up to 2 million rubles will be increased for harm to health, but compensation for cars will remain at the level of 400 thousand

The bill on increasing OSAGO payments concerns exclusively compensation for harm to life and health. The maximum limit is proposed to be increased from 500 thousand to 2 million rubles. The document does not provide for changes in payments for vehicle damage.

The increase in the limit is explained by the need for a higher assessment of damage to health. A similar level of protection is already in effect for taxi and public transport passengers.

At the same time, the payment mechanism remains the same. Under OSAGO, only that harm to health which is not covered by the compulsory medical insurance system is compensated. This means that a significant part of expenses still remains outside insurance payments.

The share of compensation for harm to life and health in the structure of OSAGO payments remains low. Against this background, it is beneficial for insurers to support the increase in the limit, since this will inevitably lead to higher policy prices.

Compensation for property damage remains unchanged. The maximum payment for vehicle damage is still limited to 400 thousand rubles.
