“Game of Thrones” star and well-known tech enthusiast Jason Momoa unveiled one of the most unusual projects in recent years. Together with the British company Electrogenic, he modernized three rare 1920s Harley-Davidson motorcycles, equipping them with electric components without losing their historical appearance.
The project involved a 1924 and 1927 Harley-Davidson Model JD, as well as a 1921 Model FD. Two motorcycles retained their original gasoline engines but received a plug-in hybrid system. The third instance had to be fully converted to electric power, as its historical engine was deemed unsuitable for restoration.
Batteries and electronic components are hidden in specially made saddlebags, styled to resemble original accessories of that era. Thanks to this, the vehicles outwardly practically do not differ from motorcycles a hundred years ago. At the same time, hybrid versions can run on gasoline, electricity, or use both energy sources simultaneously. The electric range is about 80 km, and charging takes approximately 2.5 hours from a standard household outlet.
Against the backdrop of tightening environmental requirements, such projects are gaining popularity. Companies engaged in retrofitting classic cars and motorcycles are increasingly offering owners a compromise between historical heritage and modern technology. Momoa and Electrogenic's work shows that even early 20th-century technology can get a second life thanks to electric components.
