When Nissan and Italdesign unveiled the GT-R50 in 2018, many perceived the project as a spectacular show car that would never reach buyers. However, the car did go into limited production, although the final circulation turned out to be much more modest than initially planned.
Initially, the partners planned to produce 50 units of the GT-R50 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Nissan GT-R and the Italdesign design studio. However, the pandemic, high cost, and limited demand made their adjustments. As a result, only 19 cars were assembled.
Now, one of them is preparing to change owners at an auction in Japan. According to the auction house Bingo, the car's value will range from 145 to 155 million yen, which is equivalent to approximately 65-70 million rubles.
The GT-R50 differs significantly from a regular Nissan GT-R Nismo. Despite retaining the basic R35 architecture, almost all body panels were redesigned. The car received altered proportions, a lowered roofline, and a unique body with exposed blue carbon fiber.
The technical modifications were no less serious. Nismo engineers boosted the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine to 720 hp. This was achieved using turbochargers developed based on GT3 racing technologies, an enlarged intercooler, and upgraded transmission components. The car also received special Bilstein shock absorbers and 21-inch carbon wheels.
The exhibited unit for sale is practically new. The car has never been registered for use on public roads and has only driven 221 kilometers.
Even at its current price, the GT-R50 can hardly be called a successful investment. The car's value has barely increased relative to its original price of about one million dollars. In comparison, many iconic supercars of similar value have appreciated several times over in recent years.
Nevertheless, for collectors, the main argument remains not profitability, but exceptional rarity. In terms of actual production, the GT-R50 turned out to be more exclusive than many limited-edition Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches.
