Chery Jaguar Land Rover has begun showcasing the new Freelander 8 at authorized dealerships in China. Simultaneously, a large-scale roadshow presentation of the model has started, which will cover 17 provinces and 30 cities.
As Freelander reported on July 18, the roadshow kicked off in Aranya, after which the crossover will visit Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. The first phase of the program runs from July 12 to August 1, 2026, with subsequent routes to be announced later.
In parallel, demonstration vehicles have begun arriving at selected dealerships, where potential buyers can get acquainted with the new product before its official market launch. However, the company has not yet disclosed the full list of dealers who have received the vehicles, nor has it announced prices, production plans, or delivery timelines to customers.
The Freelander 8 is the first model of the new independent Freelander brand, created within the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture. Production of the vehicle will also be organized in China at the joint venture's facilities.
The crossover is equipped with an EREV powertrain. It includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 154 hp, acting as a generator, and a CATL Freevoy traction battery with a capacity of 60.331 kWh. The electric-only range according to the WLTC cycle reaches 221 km.
The car is built on an 800-volt architecture, supports 6C charging, and has a peak power of up to 350 kW. For off-road driving, there are three differential lock systems, a dual-chamber air suspension, and a Huawei i-ATS driving mode management system.
The dimensions of the Freelander 8 are 5118×2050×1898 mm with a wheelbase of 3040 mm, although a version with a length of 5185 mm is found in registration documents depending on the configuration. The interior is designed for six people in a 2+2+2 layout, and the options list includes a tow hitch allowing towing a trailer weighing up to 2000 kg.
The interior features a 46.3-inch panoramic screen with 8K resolution and a peak brightness of 1000 nits, complemented by a 15.6-inch central display. The multimedia system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive processor.
Previously, it was reported that the model might receive various versions of the Huawei ADS 4.1 or ADS 5.0 intelligent driver assistance system, but the final production configuration has not yet been officially confirmed.
The official launch of the Freelander 8 in the Chinese market is expected in the second half of 2026. Demonstration vehicles at dealerships are currently intended solely for buyers to get acquainted with the new product and do not signify the start of sales.
