Car owners often make mistakes that negatively affect the preparation of cars for the winter period. Auto expert Alexander Petrov spoke about them.
Main risks in the off-season
According to him, in the off-season, the most common problem is related to the malfunction of the windshield washer motor after the first frosts.
Frozen liquid can damage the pipes and the washer motor itself.
The expert emphasized that such problems can be avoided by timely replacing summer fluid with winter fluid. If the liquid is already frozen, one way to solve the problem is to warm the car in a covered and heated room, for example, in the underground parking of a shopping center.
Mistakes when choosing oil
Another common mistake is using oil of unsuitable viscosity. Before the onset of frost, it is especially important to switch to a more liquid oil that is designed for low temperatures.
Too thick oil warms up longer and is not able to quickly provide full engine lubrication, which increases the risk of engine damage.
Attention to radiators
The auto expert also recommended not forgetting about radiators. He emphasized that they should be flushed not only at the end of the season, but also before its beginning. This will help avoid engine overheating and extend the life of the entire cooling system.
