GAC GS3 has long been among the brightest and most dynamic urban crossovers, but behind the impressive design, it is always important to understand how convenient and practical it is every day. But is the compact GS3 really ready to please not only in photos, but also in real operation. Its appearance is deliberately fashionable: sharp lines, complex curves of the body and hints of origami make one recall the solutions of Mazda and Lexus. On the stern is a large inscription EM ZOOM, referring to associations with the famous Zoom-Zoom philosophy.
To emphasize the futuristic image, the GS3 received recessed door handles, which not only look impressive, but also work conveniently: the car itself greets the driver, extending them at a convenient angle. Special attention should be paid to the matte gray color — it looks premium, and this coating is less susceptible to minor damage. The optics are two-tiered, with adaptive high beam, but the location of the headlights is too low — in winter they will have to be washed more often. The R-Style version stands out with 19-inch 235/45 R19 wheels, however, the ground clearance of 145 mm and the approach angle of 18 degrees remind us: this is not an off-road conqueror, but a stylish urban player.
The interior welcomes you with a sporty mood. The fit is generously adjustable: the steering wheel and seat adjustments allow drivers of different heights to sit comfortably. The eco-leather looks decent, the backs of the second row are adjustable in inclination — a rarity in the class. The panoramic roof adds air, and the multimedia complex with a 10.25-inch screen supports wireless CarPlay and CarbitLink. Climate control is via physical keys, but heating and driving modes are hidden in the menu, which is not always convenient.
In terms of driving, the GS3 is tuned for an active style. The 1.5-liter turbo engine produces 170 horsepower and 250 Nm, and paired with a 7-speed robot, it is capable of accelerating the crossover to hundreds in 7.5 seconds. Even in Comfort mode, you can feel the power reserve — if you press the gas pedal deeper, the car shoots out quickly. In Sport and Sport+ GS3 becomes almost twitchy, reacting to the pedal like a hot hatchback. Launch control is also present, although more relaxed drivers may not like this sharpness.
The chassis is tuned successfully: McPherson at the front and a semi-independent beam at the rear provide a dense but not stiff ride. In corners, the GS3 is stable, rolls are moderate, and the steering response is accurate. The steering is noticeably firm — you won’t be able to turn it with one finger, but the trajectory is held confidently. Comfort on broken roads is decent: the energy intensity of the suspension allows you not to be afraid of bad asphalt.
The trunk opens without hands: just approach with a smart key and the fifth door will rise by itself. The volume is 341 liters, but there are no fasteners or sockets, as well as a curtain. Under the floor is a spare tire and tool. All-round cameras help with maneuvering, especially given the lack of a wiper on the rear window.
The GS3 configurations are quite generous. Even the initial version provides keyless entry, a media system with wireless CarPlay, windshield heating, cruise control and tire pressure monitoring. In older versions, a panoramic roof, driver's seat ventilation, adaptive cruise, sign recognition and an electric trunk drive are available. But there is no steering wheel heating, rear seat heating or front parking sensors in any version. The washer reservoir is small — only 2.5 liters, and the fuel tank is 47 liters.
In terms of consumption, the GS3 also behaves moderately: about 9 liters per 100 km in a mixed cycle and about 7 liters on the highway. The main audience of the crossover is clear: young and active drivers who value bright style and dynamics. For those who prefer a calm character and classic design, the GS3 may seem too daring.
On the market, it is opposed by Omoda C5, Changan UNI-T and Jetta VS5 with prices from 2.38 to 3.35 million rubles. Dealers are now asking from 2,449,000 to 2,849,000 rubles for the GS3 — a quite competitive position for those looking for a stylish and fast urban SUV.
