Old junk cars can bring money - how to properly scrap a car

What documents are needed and how to deregister a car for disposal

The decision to send an old car for disposal is a balanced and practical step. It allows you to close the issue with a faulty or unnecessary vehicle, get rid of taxes and possible fines, and at the same time contribute to the environment. In Russia, the disposal procedure is clearly regulated and, with the right approach, makes it possible to receive a cash payment. Let's analyze the whole process sequentially to avoid mistakes and unpleasant surprises.

First stage: is the car suitable for disposal

Before starting the registration, it is important to make sure that the vehicle meets the established requirements. The disposal program does not apply to all cars.

The owner of the car must be a citizen of the Russian Federation. In addition, the period of ownership of the vehicle must be at least one year - this is confirmed by the data in the vehicle title.

The condition of the car also matters. The car must be equipped with the main elements: body, frame (if provided for by the design), engine, battery and wheels. The absence of interior parts, windows or a dashboard usually does not become an obstacle. But the absence of an engine or body makes disposal impossible.

Special attention should be paid to the legal status. The car must not be under arrest, pledged to a bank or have other restrictions. It is also necessary to pay off all fines in advance - if there are debts, the procedure will not be carried out.

Second stage: collecting the necessary documents

To complete the procedure, a standard package of documents will be required. It includes the original passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, the vehicle title and the vehicle registration certificate.

If the vehicle title is lost, it will have to be restored in advance through the traffic police - disposal is impossible without this document. If you are acting through a representative, a notarized power of attorney and the passport of the authorized person will be required.

Third stage: choosing an accredited disposal site

The key point of the whole procedure is the correct choice of organization. You can hand over a car exclusively to a reception point that has a valid license and accreditation from Rosprirodnadzor. Ordinary scrap metal collection points are not suitable for this.

A list of officially accredited disposers is published on the Rosprirodnadzor website. Also, such companies can be found through specialized online services or by recommendations.

A disposal agreement will be concluded with you at the site. In exchange for the car, the organization is obliged to issue two documents: an acceptance certificate and a disposal certificate of the established form. It is the certificate that is the main confirmation that the car has been transferred for legal processing. It indicates information about the car, the owner and the disposing company itself.

A cash compensation is due for the surrendered car. Its size is not regulated by the state directly and depends on the current cost of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. In practice, the amount is usually in the range from 10,000 to 35,000 rubles. The money is paid by the disposal company itself, so it is better to discuss the issue of compensation in advance, before signing the contract.

Fourth stage: deregistering the car with the traffic police

After receiving the certificate, it is necessary to officially terminate the registration of the car. To do this, you can contact any traffic police unit or the MFC, as well as submit an application through the "Gosuslugi" portal.

Termination of registration is оформляется in connection with disposal. The inspection provides a passport, vehicle title, vehicle registration certificate and the original disposal certificate.

State registration plates can be сданы or left for storage - in the latter case, a corresponding note is made in the documents.

After verification, the inspector enters a record in the vehicle title and puts a stamp on the removal of the vehicle from registration in connection with disposal. From this moment, you legally cease to be the owner of the car, and all obligations associated with it - taxes, fines and possible liability - cease.

Fifth stage: receiving payment and saving documents

If compensation was not paid immediately, after the traffic police mark, it is necessary to return to the disposal company. The money is issued on the basis of the acceptance certificate.

It is extremely important to save the mark in the vehicle title and a copy of the disposal certificate. These documents confirm that the car has officially ceased to exist as a registration object, and protect you from any claims in the future.

Frequently asked questions and important warnings

If the car is not running, this is not a problem. The disposal company is obliged to organize evacuation, but its cost is most often deducted from the amount of compensation.

It is impossible to dispose of a car without a vehicle title - the document must be restored. Also, the procedure is impossible if the car is listed as stolen or you are not its legal owner.

To avoid fraud, you should work exclusively with accredited organizations and check their status on the Rosprirodnadzor website. Never transfer a car by a simple receipt without a contract and an official certificate. Otherwise, there is a risk that the car will not be disposed of, but the documents will be restored and resold, leaving you the formal owner with all the ensuing consequences - from taxes to liability for an accident.
