"Huge" Crossover for 3 Million Rubles. Dongfeng Huge Test Drive

Large interior, controversial options, and one drive: what the new Dongfeng flagship in Russia turned out to be

In 2025, Dongfeng significantly updated its presence on the Russian market. The brand changed its distributor, and the previous models - from the Shine Max sedan to the DF6 pickup and DFSK crossovers - are gradually being discontinued. The new model range is built around two crossovers: the more compact Mage and the large Huge. For the test, we took two Huge cars at once - in basic and maximum configurations, in order to understand how noticeable the difference between the versions is.

The name Huge no longer uses the Aeolus prefix, but the branded badges with backlighting on the body have been preserved. At the same time, it is not easy to recognize the brand at first glance: a stylized inscription is placed above the radiator grille, which many read as Seolus. The design of the front end turned out to be distinctive - the massive grille with vertical slats remotely resembles Hongqi models, and through them - Rolls-Royce. Only two trim levels are presented in Russia, but they are almost indistinguishable externally: 19-inch wheels, LED optics with animation, and a panoramic roof are already in the base.

The only noticeable sign of the top version is the camera under the windshield, indicating the presence of driver assistants. The crossover does not have a front radar. It is curious that the maximum version lacks the chrome Mach inserts on the fenders, which the basic car had - perhaps this is a feature of different batches. Unpainted plastic body kit is used around the perimeter of the body, and information about galvanizing varies: some sources say about almost complete coverage, others - about partial, including doors and front fenders. In any case, additional protection of the bottom and film on vulnerable places will not be superfluous.

The keyless entry system works correctly, but is accompanied by a loud sound signal each time the car is closed, which is not normally disabled. Because of this, the owner has to put up with increased attention from others, especially in the yard. In terms of dimensions, the Huge fully justifies its name: a length of 4720 mm, a width of 1910 mm and a height of 1702 mm make it a direct competitor to large mid-size crossovers. It is only a few centimeters shorter than the Geely Monjaro, but at the same time wider and higher, which positively affected the interior space.

The trunk impresses with its volume - up to 770 liters are declared when loaded under the ceiling. The electric fifth door drive is only available in the top version, in the base the lid has to be raised manually, and the button is located low. When the backs of the second row are folded, an almost flat floor is formed, and the floor level can be adjusted. The rear row is spacious: with a height of 186 cm, there is room for knees and head, the back has a wide adjustment, and the cushions are long and comfortable. However, in the base there are no pockets on the backs of the front seats, armrest and adjustment of the central headrest, and heating of the second row is not offered at all.

The front seats are comfortable and suitable for a long journey, although the set of adjustments cannot be called exhaustive. In the top version, a passenger seat with an ottoman appears. The Nappa faux leather trim is pleasant to the touch, the materials in the cabin are generally soft, but the build quality differs: the top version makes a more solid impression, while some elements in the base creak. The main visual difference of the cabin is the climate control unit: the top has a single-zone with touch buttons, the base has a regular air conditioner with physical keys.

The screen part is the same: an 8-inch dashboard and a 12.3-inch central display. The graphics are simple, the resolution is average, but the interface works quickly. The translation of the multimedia system depends on the firmware: in the newer version there are almost no errors. The surround view cameras offer a 3D mode, but the image quality is average, especially in the evening. The audio system with six speakers plays without frills, and more advanced acoustics are not available for Russia.

Technically, all versions of Huge are the same. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter Mach Power turbo engine with 197 hp and 305 Nm, working in tandem with a 7-speed Getrag "robot". The drive is only front. The engine and gearbox are well coordinated: in Normal, gears shift smoothly, without jerks, and acceleration to 100 km/h takes 8.2 s. There are several driving modes and an i-Drive system with fine-tuning of the accelerator pedal response. The suspension is focused on comfort, the ground clearance of 210 mm allows you to feel confident on bad roads, but the noise insulation remains average, especially on the highway.

In Russia, Dongfeng Huge is offered at a price of 3.0 to 3.14 million rubles, excluding discounts. The more expensive version features adaptive cruise control and driver assistants that work correctly and predictably. At the same time, many options available in other countries have not yet reached the Russian market, including seat ventilation, extended interior lighting and advanced multimedia.
