Why good painters never skimp on these four painting stages

The most frequently violated rules of color matching

Even expensive materials do not guarantee a quality result if you skimp on preparation or violate the technology. Most defects that appear several months after repair arise not because of the paint, but because of the desire to speed up work or reduce costs. There are four things you really cannot save on.

Do not skip degreasing and do not rush with inspection

Before any sanding — whether it's rust removal or preparation for putty — the surface must be thoroughly degreased. And not only on the outside, but also inside the openings, if possible.

After cleaning, hidden defects become clearly visible: cracks in the paintwork, traces of old repairs, metal folds after impact. If they are detected before starting work, additional repairs can be immediately agreed with the client and unpleasant conversations after handing over the car can be avoided.

Do not save on abrasives and metal preparation

Good abrasive material works faster, lasts longer, and provides a smooth surface. But the main rule is that putty should only be applied to clean metal.

If old paint is left under the putty, contours of the repair, material shrinkage, or coating delamination will almost inevitably appear over time. Correcting such errors is always more expensive than doing the preparation correctly from the start.

Good ventilation is more important than an expensive respirator

Even a high-quality respirator cannot completely protect against solvent vapors and paint aerosol. Therefore, normal ventilation is not a luxury, but a mandatory working condition.

In addition, poor ventilation increases air humidity. Because of this, two-component primers, varnishes, and enamels may polymerize incorrectly, and the coating will not gain the necessary strength.

You should not save on thinners either. Cheap solvents can disrupt the chemical reaction of materials, which will subsequently affect the quality of the paintwork.

Do not mix remnants of different materials

The desire to use materials without residue is understandable, but mixing different varnishes and especially different hardeners is not allowed.

Each manufacturer selects the composition of components so that they work only in a specific pair. Compatibility violations can lead to yellowing of the coating, the appearance of microcracks, or complete delamination of the varnish after several months.

In painting work, saving often costs more than the painting itself. If you follow the technology from the very beginning, you will not have to redo the work, spend money on materials, and risk your own reputation.
