Chinese Automotive Industry: BYD Leads, Geely Galaxy Surprises

The Chinese automotive market has summarized the results of the first half of 2025, demonstrating BYD's leadership with 1.47 million cars sold and a market share of 13.37%. The company is strengthening its position, despite problems with overstocking of warehouses and reduced production.

Volkswagen (934.2 thousand cars, 8.49%) and Toyota (742.4 thousand, 6.75%) took second and third places, respectively, lagging behind the leader in sales volumes.

Geely took fourth place with 672 thousand cars sold, showing an impressive growth of 50% compared to last year. Its sub-brand Geely Galaxy, focused on "new energy" vehicles, debuted in seventh position with 371.6 thousand cars (3.38%), surpassing Lada in Russia in sales. Wuling (454.8 thousand, 4.13%) and Changan (397.1 thousand, 3.61%) closed the top five, showing growth of 2.8%.

Among the Chinese brands in the top 10 were also Chery (296.5 thousand, growth of 11.6%), Hongqi, Li Auto, HIMA (Huawei), and Leapmotor. Honda, on the contrary, lost ground, selling 314.4 thousand cars (2.86%), and Audi closes the top ten with 269.9 thousand cars (2.45%). The Chinese market continues to demonstrate the growth of local brands, especially in the electric vehicle segment.
