Pre-sales of the luxury SUV Yangwang U8L from BYD have started in China, priced at approximately 1.3 million yuan ($181,130).
This 5.4-meter hybrid SUV with four electric motors producing 1180 hp is positioned as a competitor to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Yangwang, BYD's premium brand, focuses on luxury and technology, but sales in China are modest so far, with only 1003 vehicles delivered in the first half of 2025.
The U8L Dingshi Edition is 372 mm longer than the standard U8, with a 200 mm longer wheelbase (3250 mm). The design includes a massive grille, 24-carat gold emblems, and 23-inch wheels. The interior features six seats (2+2+2), three monitors (23.6 and 12.8 inches), massage seats with heating and ventilation, and a ceiling screen for rear passengers. Automatically dimming windows and carbon-ceramic brakes emphasize its premium status.
Technically, the U8L is equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine and four electric motors, accelerating the SUV to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The range is 1000 km. The DiPilot 600 system with three LiDARs supports autopilot on highways and in the city, while the Disus-P hydraulic suspension ensures comfort.
