The Russian automotive market continues to experience a downturn, and AvtoVAZ does not expect a noticeable increase in Lada car sales in the coming months. This was announced by the company's president, Maxim Sokolov, in Togliatti. According to him, despite the recent reduction of the Central Bank's key rate to 18%, the effect of this step will not be immediate due to market inertia and large inventory stockpiles, especially of Chinese brands.
In the first seven months of 2025, the market for new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia decreased by 23.4%, amounting to 704.7 thousand units. In July, sales increased by a third compared to June, reaching 129.2 thousand vehicles, but still turned out to be 11% lower than last year's figures. Lada sales, according to analysts, fell by 24.4% to 183.7 thousand units over the same period.
AvtoVAZ is adjusting its production plans, initially calculated for the production of 500 thousand cars in 2025, expecting a decrease in sales of 20–25%. Sokolov noted that inventory stockpiles, especially of Chinese brands, hinder demand recovery, and the market is moving according to a pessimistic scenario.
