Used Car Market in Russia: Left-Hand Drive Displaces Right-Hand Drive

Import of used passenger cars into Russia is growing

In July 2025, imports of used passenger cars into Russia reached 47.3 thousand units, which is 28% more than a year earlier. The structure of supplies has changed: South Korea increased exports by 88% (10,281 units), China by 450% (7,603 units), and Georgia by 225% (3,546 units). Supplies from Japan decreased by 6% (21,783 units), and from Belarus by 61% (1,469 units). These changes reflect the growing demand for cars from new regions.

For the first time in history, left-hand drive cars (51.4%) overtook right-hand drive cars (48.6%) in terms of import share. The leading brands were Toyota (9,701 units), Honda (7,921 units), BMW (4,149 units), Kia (3,636 units), and Volkswagen (2,650 units). Among right-hand drive models, Honda Freed (1,840 units), Honda Fit (1,494 units), and Toyota Corolla (1,310 units) are popular, while among left-hand drive models, Kia K5 (755 units) and Hyundai Palisade (711 units) are popular.

The growth in imports of used cars is due to increased demand for affordable models. The top 5 left-hand drive cars also include Kia Carnival (623 units), Kia Sorento (621 units), and Hyundai Santa Fe (594 units), while the top right-hand drive cars include Honda Stepwgn (1,143 units) and Toyota Yaris (973 units).
