Toyota has filed an application with Rospatent for registration of the Daihatsu brand in the Russian Federation, which previously had no official representatives in our country. Daihatsu is one of the oldest automakers in Japan, holding leading positions in the production of kei cars. For foreign markets, Daihatsu produces larger car models under the Toyota or Perodua brand.
However, trademark registration does not necessarily mean the manufacturer's entry into the market. There is a possibility that the Japanese simply want to secure their rights to the brand, or sell a license for contract manufacturing of their products. In the Russian Federation, the compact car segment is virtually empty; the maximum that can be found on the market is sedans or golf-class cars from China, so compact urban crossovers from a trusted brand could be very successful.
