Hyundai will continue to develop the N line of sports models, despite increasingly stringent environmental standards. The company is working on new power plants that will preserve the dynamic characteristics of the cars. The transition to hybrid technologies is becoming a key area to meet environmental requirements without sacrificing performance.
The next-generation Hyundai i20 N hatchback, expected in 2026 or 2027, will become a hybrid, losing its manual transmission. The model will retain a 1.6-liter turbo engine, supplemented by an electric motor integrated into a robotic transmission. The total power of the system will be about 280 hp, which will provide a performance boost, but the car will become heavier and probably more expensive.
The Elantra N model will retain the gasoline version, but may switch from a 2.0-liter turbo engine to a more powerful 2.5-liter engine. This modification will be available in a limited number of countries, including the USA, Australia and possibly South Korea.
