Plans to revive the Volga brand were first announced in 2022. Initially, the launch of mass production was scheduled for 2024, but the project faced difficulties.
In May 2024, a public display of three new Volga cars was held. The exhibited models almost completely replicated the models of the Chinese company Changan (Raeton Plus, X5 Plus and Uni-Z) and were equipped with a 188 hp gasoline engine paired with an automatic 7-speed transmission.
In 2025, the launch was disrupted due to Changan's exit from the project. In the fall of the same year, reports appeared about the possible connection of Geely to the development, although there was no confirmation from the company.
The new start date for Volga production is now set for spring 2026, according to the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov.
