Many car owners believe that if a car is idle for a long time, it does not wear out, but in practice, a long stop can become a serious test. This was stated by Pavel Bakharev, Senior Technical Expert at Sintec Lubricants.
According to him, even a new car left unattended for a long time is not immune from problems.
And first of all, technical fluids suffer - the "circulatory system" of the car. The loss of their working properties can lead to internal corrosion, lubrication failure, future overheating and even system failure.
Thus, even in a stationary car, the engine oil continues to age and oxidize, lubricating and protective properties are reduced. The thickener and additives delaminate, contaminants can settle at the bottom of the crankcase. Antifreeze with silicates in the composition eventually loses its ability to resist corrosion.
Also, brake fluid, despite its tightness, absorbs moisture from the air, which impairs the operation of the brake system. Finally, the fuel loses its original properties during long-term storage.
