French Renault and Chinese Chery have started negotiations on launching car assembly in South America. According to Bloomberg, the partners are considering an option in which Chery cars will be produced at Renault plants and sold in the region under the French brand.
Chery is ready to invest and provide its developments, and Renault - facilities in Colombia and Argentina. In Envigado, it is planned to establish the production of cars with internal combustion engines, most of which will go under the French brand. The plant in Cordoba is discussing the assembly of plug-in hybrid pickups, which will be distributed by Renault.
Negotiations are at an early stage, and no final decisions have been made yet. At the same time, Renault is already cooperating with Geely in Brazil, where hybrids are produced. Bloomberg sources emphasize separately: cooperation with Chery will not affect the partnership with Geely.
