Diesel cars are rapidly disappearing from the Russian market. The former advantages of economy and reliability no longer outweigh the high cost of maintenance. This was reported to the portal naavtotrasse.ru by a mechanic from one of the car services.
According to him, ten to fifteen years ago, diesel engines were considered the best choice for those who drive a lot and value endurance. Low fuel consumption, confident traction under full load, and a lifespan of hundreds of thousands of kilometers made such cars almost ideal.
The high price quickly paid off, and the diesel engine was not afraid of frost - owners rarely complained about starting problems.
Today the situation has changed. The share of passenger diesel cars in Russia has practically disappeared: domestic car companies traditionally relied on gasoline, and Chinese brands that have occupied the market completely ignore diesel fuel, preferring gasoline and electric traction, the mechanic added.
Even owners of old diesel cars note: savings no longer look significant. The real gain is 15-17%, while the difference in price of fuel gives only about 14%. At the same time, maintenance has become noticeably more expensive.
Injectors, pressure pumps, special oils, AdBlue reagent, frequent filter replacement - costs are growing faster than savings on diesel fuel. What was once considered a profitable acquisition has today become an argument against diesel cars, the specialist concluded.
