Drivers warned: simply removing the battery can kill the car's electronics

The car's systems may go into protective lock

Owners of modern cars were reminded that simply disconnecting the battery can completely block the car's electronics and require complex recovery through a branded service. This threat was reported by the "Behind the Wheel" publication.

In cars of the 1990s, disconnecting the battery was routine - at most, the clock would be reset. In modern cars, a power interruption is perceived as an unauthorized intervention, which causes the on-board systems to reset settings and may go into protective lock.

European, American, Japanese, Korean and Chinese premium models are especially sensitive: the computer is sometimes blocked so much that recovery is only possible through branded services with connection to the manufacturers' servers. For a number of brands, such connections are no longer available, and owners are forced to turn to Russian programmers.

Before disconnecting the battery, experts advise connecting a temporary source to the on-board network - at least an assembly of three lithium-ion 18650 elements. This will save power and avoid loss of settings.

For details of the behavior of a particular model, it is recommended to contact specialized forums.
