Auto expert explained how to save a car from winter corrosion

Don't skimp on anti-gravel protection

Winter conditions - snow, ice, and aggressive reagents - accelerate the wear and tear of a car and require a special approach to maintenance. Alexander Kornev, Head of the Department for Work with Importers at Gazprombank Autoleasing, reminded that car protection in the cold season should be comprehensive.

First of all, the expert advises monitoring the condition of the body. Even small chips in winter quickly turn into foci of corrosion due to road "chemistry." It is better to eliminate damage with exposed metal immediately, without postponing it until spring.

Kornev paid special attention to anti-gravel protection. According to him, applying film to the most vulnerable areas - the hood, front fenders, bumper, and pillars - avoids costly painting in the future. At the same time, all defects in the paintwork must be eliminated in advance, otherwise corrosion under the film will develop faster.

The expert also refuted the myth that a car can be washed less often in winter. Reagents actively destroy paintwork, plastic, and chrome, so washing in the cold period should be regular, with mandatory cleaning of arches, sills, and the undercarriage. After washing, it is important to dry the seals and locks.

In addition, the load on the battery and tires increases in winter. Old batteries lose charge faster, and winter tires require proper break-in and tread depth control - at least 4 mm.
