Love for Chinese Cars Gone?: Russians Flee to Toyota and BMW

Geely and Chery Losing Popularity in Russia

In 2025, sales of Chinese cars in Russia plummeted by 40%, to 513.7 thousand cars. Love for "Chinese" is passing, and Russians are again choosing proven brands like Toyota and BMW, analyst Sergey Tselikov reported in a report.

Geely remained the leader among Chinese brands with 93.3 thousand cars sold (-27%). Changan took second place with 66.1 thousand cars (-38%), and Chery's sales collapsed by 74% to 38.7 thousand units. Haval sold 29.2 thousand cars (-59%), Omoda - 27.9 thousand (-44%), Jetour - 23.5 thousand (-33%).

Against the backdrop of the fall of Chinese brands, global brands showed strong growth. Toyota increased sales by 86% to 23.6 thousand, BMW - by a colossal 485%, Volkswagen - by 80%, Mazda - by 71%, Skoda - by 65%. Hongqi, Knewstar, and GAC also stood out (+6%). Kia was an exception: sales fell by 18%.

Apparently, Russians are increasingly looking for reliability and comfort, rather than cheap exotics. Chinese cars are gradually losing appeal, giving way to brands with a proven reputation.
