According to a joint study by Gazprombank Autoleasing and the Avtostat agency, the financial capacity of the Russian market for new passenger cars reached 487.4 billion rubles in December 2025. This is 7.7% more than in November and 24.3% higher than a year earlier. Over the whole of 2025, Russians spent 4.38 trillion rubles on new cars, which is 10.6% below the record result of 2024 (4.9 trillion).
Premium cars continue to increase their share of spending. In December, 17.9 thousand luxury-segment cars were sold (+12.8% compared with November), on which Russians spent 155.5 billion rubles (+17.1%). The share of the premium segment exceeded 30% for the first time in 2025, reaching 31.9%. Accordingly, the share of mass-market models fell to 68.1%, although their sales volume and spending also grew: 118.6 thousand cars (+5.8%) worth 331.8 billion rubles (+3.8%).
Chinese brands are leading: 58.1 thousand cars were sold for 221.9 billion rubles, while their share in monetary terms declined from 47% to 45.5%. They are followed by Russian brands (98.3 billion rubles), European brands (83.4 billion), Japanese brands (41.2 billion), Korean brands (13.8 billion), and American brands (7.1 billion). By number of sales, Russian brands also rank second after Chinese brands, with 51.3 thousand units.
The SUV segment regained momentum: 99.6 thousand new crossovers and SUVs were sold for 393.9 billion rubles, accounting for 73% in units and 80.8% in monetary terms, surpassing the 80% mark in the spending structure for the first time. B-class cars remain in second place in popularity, with 22.1 thousand units sold for 33.5 billion rubles (16.2% and 6.9%, respectively). The remaining segments did not reach even 3% either in volume or in financial capacity.
