About ten Chinese brands may leave the Russian market due to competition and the increase in the utilization fee. This was reported by the SHOT Telegram channel, citing Anton Shaparov, Vice President of the National Automobile Union.
According to the source, the list of potentially departing brands includes Kaiyi, BAIC, SWM, Dongfeng, Jetta, Bestune, Wey, Rox, Oting, and VGV. Since January 1, the utilization fee for a number of models has increased from 750 to 900 thousand rubles. This increased the final price of cars with low sales volumes — in some cases, less than 3000 cars per year.
As Anton Shaparov told SHOT, these companies may leave the market in the near future because they are operating at a loss. He cited increased competition from Geely, Haval, and Chery as an additional factor.
It is noted that Kaiyi closed more than 30 dealerships last year, and its loss for 2024 amounted to 1.9 billion rubles. The brand's cars were produced in Kaliningrad. According to SHOT, BAIC, SWM, and Dongfeng are also experiencing difficulties.
If brands leave, owners may face difficulties in finding spare parts.
