In Russia, the number of thefts of Chinese cars is growing amid their increasing popularity on the market. Most often, criminals are interested in mass-market models that are profitable to dismantle for spare parts.
According to data from the insurance company "Ingosstrakh," the leader in the number of thefts among Chinese cars since the beginning of last year was the Haval Jolion crossover. This model is also considered the best-selling Chinese car on the Russian market. Second place in the statistics went to the premium midsize crossover Exeed TXL.
At the company "Renessans Strakhovanie," the most stolen model was named the Haval Dargo crossover. Insurers also note increased interest from car thieves in the Chery Arrizo 8 business sedan.
According to statistics from "RESO-Garantiya," the top three most stolen Chinese cars included the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, Geely Monjaro, and Haval Jolion. At the insurance company "Soglasie," they compiled data only by brands: Jaecoo was among the leaders in thefts, Chery and Changan shared second place, and JAC was in third place.
The most frequent car thefts are recorded in Moscow, the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, and Krasnodar Krai. Such data are provided by the companies "Soglasie," "Ingosstrakh," and "RESO-Garantiya."
The reason is that these regions have the largest vehicle fleet.
According to insurers, Chinese cars are most often stolen from residential courtyard areas at night. Another common crime location is the parking lots of large shopping centers, where cars are stolen mainly during the day.
