Chinese Brands Advance in the Premium Segment

Maextro S800 began selling better in China than Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

The Chinese luxury sedan Maextro S800 has begun selling better in China than a number of well-known premium segment models. According to market data, in recent months the car has outsold the Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class combined in the Chinese market.

Against the backdrop of strengthening local manufacturers, foreign brands are experiencing difficulties. This is especially noticeable for Porsche: the brand's deliveries in China decreased by approximately 26% last year. Globally, in 2025, the company delivered approximately 279,449 vehicles to customers, 10% less than the year before.

The growing popularity of Chinese models is due to changing customer preferences. Many customers are increasingly choosing electric vehicles and models with modern digital technologies, which are actively offered by local brands.

The Maextro S800 costs from $103,000, which is approximately 40% cheaper than the Porsche Panamera. Chinese companies BYD, Xiaomi, and Huawei are also strengthening their positions in the segment.

In response, Porsche is revising its strategy. The company plans to focus on high-margin sports cars and SUVs, as well as develop new models for the Chinese market. To this end, the brand is creating a separate development center in Shanghai, where they will work on software and multimedia systems for local buyers.
