Authorities are closing the loophole with pit bikes

They want to allow them to be driven only with a category "A" license or a certificate from a sports school

Russia has developed a GOST standard for pit bikes and sports motorcycles. The document includes technical requirements, test methods, and classification. After its adoption, all equipment imported into the country will have to undergo mandatory certification.

Previously, pit bikes were imported as sports equipment. This made it possible not to pay duties and not to register the equipment. In fact, motorcycles without headlights, mirrors, and turn signals, driven by teenagers without licenses or training, ended up on the roads.

The initiative was supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The authorities plan to establish uniform rules for manufacturers and owners. At the same time, restrictions on use are being considered: driving will only be possible with a category "A" license or a certificate from a sports school.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport has prepared measures that should prohibit the use of pit bikes on public roads. These changes are planned to be introduced in early summer.

According to Mash, the number of accidents involving pit bikes has increased by 25%, and the number of deaths by 29%. At the same time, the equipment is still sold freely: without licenses, technical inspections, and age restrictions.
