Jaguar has revised its model strategy and abandoned a number of projects for the new Type 00 electric vehicle. The company closed the development of the XJ sedan, despite the model's near readiness for launch. The car was created as an "electric car", but the platform allowed the installation of a six-cylinder engine.
Former design director Ian Callum reported that new versions of the XF and F-Pace crossover were also developed. These projects were closed after the strategy change. In addition, a successor to the F-Type sports car was in development.
According to Callum, the abandonment of the F-Type was the most sensitive decision. He noted that two-door sports cars with a front engine are disappearing from the market, and the F-Type was one of the last such models.
The new Type 00 should become the flagship of the brand. Jaguar plans to compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce, abandoning the mass segment. The electric car will receive a three-motor installation with a capacity of about 1000 hp, acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a range of up to 692 km.
Earlier motoram.ru reported on the revision of Rolls-Royce's strategy in favor of moving away from full electrification.
