The engine no longer roars: the oldest BMW plant announces the end of the ICE era

The company will transfer the Munich plant to the production of electric vehicles from 2027

BMW will transfer its oldest plant in Munich to the production of electric vehicles: from 2027, the plant will completely abandon internal combustion engines. Already from August 2026, the plant will begin mass production of the BMW i3 electric sedan. This will be the beginning of the introduction of the Neue Klasse platform into the brand's global production network. Pre-production of the model started in February.

The BMW i3 will be the second Neue Klasse model after the iX3 crossover, which is produced in Hungary. Munich will also establish production of the i3 Touring station wagon.

Over the past two years, BMW has invested more than 650 million euros in the modernization of the plant. The plant has become more digital, flexible and adapted for the production of electric vehicles. According to plant manager Peter Weber, this will reduce production costs by another 10% compared to the current generation of models.

Earlier motoram.ru reported that the company is ceasing production of the 8 Series.
