British brand Marcos is developing a new sports car Project Mosquito - the brand's first completely new car in almost 20 years.
The company, founded in 1959 by Jem Marsh and Frank Costin, has survived several closures and restarts. The latest models - Marcasite TS250 and TS500 - were discontinued in 2007. An attempt to revive in 2010 did not lead to the release of new cars.
The current project is called Mosquito and is so far presented as a test prototype designed to test the body structure and system integration.
The car is made of fiberglass, like previous models of the brand, and uses components from BMW and Mini. According to the owner of the company, Howard Nash, the prototype could become a production model.
It is planned that the Mosquito will be focused on track days and compete with solutions from Caterham and Westfield. At the same time, the model is not based on the Lotus architecture, but is a modern interpretation of the Mini Marcos of the 1970s.
The new sports car retains the key idea of the original - a combination of light weight, compact size and high power.
