Tesla has finally prepared a production line for the new Roadster – the company's most anticipated and at the same time most mysterious project. However, even now, the model still does not have a full launch date. The history of the Roadster has already become almost legendary. Tesla first showed the car back in 2017, promising hypercar-level characteristics: acceleration to 100 km/h in less than 2 seconds, a range of about 1000 km, and a top speed of over 400 km/h. Later, Elon Musk added an even more exotic idea – the SpaceX package with miniature jet engines.
Since then, the project has been repeatedly delayed. Tesla explained the delays by component shortages, the priority of mass-market models, and the need to develop new batteries. Now the situation has changed: the company has already prepared a separate production site for the Roadster at Gigafactory in California.
But the main problem remains the same – Tesla still avoids specific deadlines for the start of mass production. And this is especially unusual for a car for which the company has been collecting pre-orders for almost nine years.
Interestingly, during the waiting period, the market has completely changed. When the Roadster was first announced, Tesla looked like a technological outsider among supercars. Today, the company competes with Rimac, Lucid, Lotus, Xiaomi, and Chinese EV brands, which are already mass-producing ultra-powerful electric models.
In addition, the very concept of a hypercar has also changed. If earlier Tesla focused primarily on record acceleration, now the industry is increasingly discussing software, batteries, aerodynamics, and intelligent control systems.
That is why the new Roadster found itself in a difficult situation. It must not only live up to nine years of expectations but also prove once again that Tesla is capable of surprising a market that has become much more competitive during this time.
