McLaren has unveiled one of the most symbolic special series in recent years — the Artura 1000GP. The car is created in honor of the team's 1000th start in Formula 1 and will be released in a limited edition of just ten units. The main feature of the car is its design, inspired by the anniversary livery of the MCL40 car, on which Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will compete in Monaco. The body features large graphic elements "1000GP", the signature Papaya Orange color, and special decorative details from McLaren Special Operations (MSO). The interior features a commemorative metal plaque dedicated to the team's historic achievement.
Technically, however, the car is almost identical to the standard Artura. Under the body remains a hybrid powertrain: a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, an electric motor, and a 7.4 kWh battery. The total output reaches 690 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes about three seconds, and the top speed exceeds 330 km/h. At the same time, the supercar can travel approximately 33 km purely on electric power.
McLaren celebrates a thousand starts in Formula 1 — most of this history the team spent in the era of naturally aspirated V8s, V10s, and V12s. However, the anniversary road car turned out to be not a V8 supercar, but a hybrid with a compact V6.
In fact, the Artura 1000GP has become a symbol of a new reality for the entire high-performance automotive industry. Even brands whose identity has been built for decades around large engines and mechanical drama are gradually transitioning to electrified platforms.
Audience reaction to modern McLarens remains mixed. On Reddit, some enthusiasts praise the Artura for its comfort, speed, and the ability to use the electric motor in everyday driving, while others continue to consider older V8 models or the current 750S more emotional.
