A Shoei helmet belonging to legendary racer Ayrton Senna was sold at a Budds auction for 500,000 pounds sterling (approximately 50.8 million rubles). The artifact was used during three stages of the 1992 Formula 1 season, including the Hungarian Grand Prix, which the Brazilian won.
The lot holds special historical value. It was in the 1992 season that Senna raced for McLaren in the MP4/7A car with a Honda engine. Despite the dominance of the Williams team, the Brazilian managed to achieve several brilliant victories, and the Hungarian race is considered one of the best in his career.
Experts note that the helmet has been preserved in almost original condition. It retains factory markings, certification traces, as well as characteristic damage from use – chips and scuffs obtained directly during races. Authenticity is confirmed by an official McLaren certificate and photographic analysis.
The high price confirms that items related to Ayrton Senna continue to increase in value. In recent years, his personal cars and racing equipment parts have been sold at auctions for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Collectors' interest is explained not only by the racer's sporting achievements but also by his enormous influence on the development of motorsport and Formula 1 technologies.
