Hongqi tests battery with up to 70% charge in less than four minutes

New battery developed in collaboration with Lishen Battery

Chinese FAW Group announced successful tests of a new ultra-fast traction battery, developed jointly with Lishen Battery for Hongqi brand vehicles. According to the manufacturer, the battery demonstrated one of the highest charging speeds among modern production developments.

During tests at 25 °C, the battery charged from 10 to 70% in just 3 minutes 41 seconds, and a 97% charge level was reached in 8 minutes 3 seconds. The maximum charging speed was 12C, which means the theoretical possibility of fully replenishing the charge in approximately five minutes under ideal conditions.

Such results were achieved thanks to a new anode for ultra-fast charging and a proprietary electrolyte with low desolvation energy, which accelerates the movement of lithium ions. In addition, engineers applied a composite carbon coating and material alloying technology, which reduced the internal resistance of battery cells by approximately 15% compared to analogues.

To prevent overheating, the battery is equipped with an intelligent liquid cooling system. During charging, the temperature difference between different parts of the battery pack does not exceed 3 °C, which helps maintain the efficiency and lifespan of the elements.

Another feature is the adaptive charging management system. It monitors the temperature and voltage of individual cells in real time, automatically adjusting the charging power. This approach helps reduce the risk of overheating, overcharging, and overvoltage of the battery.
