KAMAZ has created a new garbage truck on the K5 chassis: 13.6 cubic meters of waste without overloading

The design is specifically intended for urban operation with a heavy superstructure

KAMAZ and Moskommash company have developed an experimental garbage truck on the K5 KAMAZ-53253 4×2 chassis. The vehicle received a shortened wheelbase of 3900 mm, specifically designed for the installation of municipal equipment.

The gross vehicle weight reaches 18 tons, and the chassis payload is 11.84 tons. A 310 hp KAMAZ engine is installed under the cab, working with a robotic gearbox. The low cab without a sleeping berth makes the vehicle more convenient for frequent stops and driver boarding in urban conditions.

The rear axle uses air suspension, while leaf springs are installed at the front. This combination allows for maintaining payload capacity and providing the necessary ride smoothness when working with a heavy superstructure.

The most important equipment is the Moskommash garbage truck unit with a volume of 13.6 m³. It is designed for compacting solid municipal waste, thus allowing a significant volume of waste to be transported in one trip without exceeding permissible weight parameters.

For winter operation, a 260-liter aluminum fuel tank with a heated fuel pickup is provided. This reduces the risk of fuel supply problems at low temperatures.

Currently, this is an experimental model. But the design itself shows for what tasks KAMAZ is adapting the K5 family: a short wheelbase, a low cab, and a specialized superstructure transform a universal cargo chassis into equipment for municipal services.
