The long-wheelbase Volkswagen ID. Buzz completed an unusual endurance test: the car traveled 99,767 km in 445 days, visiting 92 countries on six continents. The car remained in production condition, and after its return to Hanover, its traction battery was checked by TÜV Nord.
The main result is 95.75% State of Health (SoH) for the 86 kWh battery. In other words, after almost 100,000 km, the measured battery degradation was about 4.25 percentage points. During the trip, the car performed more than 300 charges and, according to Volkswagen, did not experience a single technical breakdown.
The route passed through deserts, mountainous regions, and countries with completely different charging infrastructures. In some regions of Africa, there were practically no public charging stations — the car had to be connected to the infrastructure of national power grids.
However, one car cannot replace a full-fledged study of the resource of the entire MEB battery platform. But the result is remarkable precisely for its practical scale: almost 100,000 km, 300+ charges, and the preservation of more than 95% of the battery's original state provide a clear idea of the endurance of a specific production model.
